A Coat of Many Colours
New Investment in Multi-Coloured Profiles

RegaLeadÕs new polyester powder application equipment is currently undergoing extensive production trials at our Sharston site. Powder coatings are used extensively in the construction industry both on internal and external applications and give a tough scratch resistant coloured coating. Our specialist supplier on this project, Akzo Nobel, has worked closely with us to ensure the correct specification of paints and coating systems for lead profiles and is currently conducting performance trials at its UK laboratories.

This new process will enable us to produce a much wider range of coloured profiles and textured lead profiles. Initially we will be launching two antique effect textured metal finishes, Iron and Copper, which will allow customers to simulate wrought iron effect designs which are growing in popularity, particularly in the USA and Canada. Swatch cards and samples will be available within the next few weeks. These first two special finishes will be quickly followed by a wide range of standard colours that will complement our existing range of electro-phoretic coated products.

The introduction of polyester powder coat production also gives us the capability to produce coloured profiles using metals other than lead. This area of development is well underway and we expect to launch a new range of profiles in early 2010 which can be either hand or machine applied in straight lines to simulate Georgian Muntin bars and other decorative effects.

In parallel to the new painting process, RegaLead is also investing in new tooling to extend the range of widths available from 3.5mm to 22mm. The first phase of this range expansion is now complete and we are now able to offer 15mm and 18mm widths in Natural, Brass and Antique finishes.

The development of these new profiles and the polyester powder coating has been headed up by Robert Bloomfield, our Production and Operations Manager. Robert has been with the company for 20 years and describes these latest projects as Òthe most exiting times in the lead production side of our business since we first launched coated leads.
