Q1
A1 There are certain precautions you should take during the application of RegaLead self adhesive lead products to ensure safety:
a) Always wash your hands thoroughly after handling the lead strip.
b) Do not eat or smoke whilst working with the lead strip.
c) Ensure all unused material is stored safely out of the reach of children.
More specific H&S information is available from our sales office or you can download the “Lead and You” leaflet issued by the health and safety executive.
Q2
A2 When lead profile first comes into contact with the atmosphere, the surface gradually oxidizes to form a natural protective film called a patina, which eventually produces the familiar grey colour. During the initial stages of patination the lead can appear to take on various colours such as blue, bronze, gold and green. Also when lead first comes into contact with moisture (rainwater or condensation) it may result in temporary discolouration, spotting or the appearance of white powdery deposits which in wet weather can run onto the glass.
Gradually, however, these will fade away to leave the final protective grey patina.
The time required to complete this cycle will vary depending on the purity of the lead, the location, time of year, environment, weather conditions and airborne impurities.
Patination oil can be applied to prevent oxidisation, but this needs to be applied as soon as the lead is put onto the glass.
For more detailed information on oxidisation you can download our technical data sheet TDS04.
Q3
A3 Stained Glass Art Film can be applied to single glazing, but must be applied to the inside face of the glass not the exterior. For more information on application of RegaLead products download our technical data sheet TDS05.
Q4
A4 UV-Tek luminaires have been tested for safety by the National Radioligical Protection Board and the output from the units is less than that from natural UV light when operators use their equipment. However it is still recommended that the UV safety glasses are supplied to operators to ensure maximum protection.
Q5
A5 Most Regaled customers use the UV-Tek UV curing adhesive systems to provide a permanent and stable bond for RegaBevels. After full cure the adhesive is extremely difficult to breakdown, however, if for any reason you need to remove the bevel it is sometimes possible by using the gentle heat from a blowtorch and carefully levering the bevel using a suitable blade. Extreme care should be taken to avoid damage to the panel.
Q6
A6 As the UV Tek system cures from underneath it is not possible to cure adhesives using UV light source because laminated glass filters out 99% of UV light. We supply visible light curing systems for customers wanting to bond to laminated glass. These are activated by a wavelength of light that will pass through the laminate. It is not necessary to change the UV Tek bulbs in the luminaires.
Q7
A7 The experience of 20 years or more suggest that our lead strips when applied firmly to clean glass surfaces will give many years of service. Industry standards for many professionally manufactured usually double glazed products carry a typical l 0 year guarantee.
